Finding Help
It's very important to seek professional help if you are mentally ill or fear you might be. The BEST information I have found on finding a therapist is Choosing a Competant Counselor. READ THIS before you go out seeking a counselor, psychologist or psychiatrist. It gives you power... and you DO have power over your own healing. There's a saying about therapy, "You'll feel worse before you get better." Don't let this scare you. It's worth it.
There's a good chance there are support groups in your area for many disorders. Ask your therapist or a local mental health center. They are often free. These are great if you're able to go to them. Sometimes it's hard to talk, especially at first, but it's part of the healing process.
There are a LOT of good books out there... self help, workbooks, and just books to read on various mental illnesses. Read them, and have your family and friends read them (try to insist). You can search at Amazon.com or check out the psychiatry section at the local bookstore.
Finally, there are tons of groups online. Go to your favorite search engine and do a search on your particular disorder. If you're looking specifically for a group, add the word "support". Also, go to places like E-Groups and search for mailing lists related to the mental illness. One group can probably lead you to many more until you find the one your comfortable with.
You can also find support groups and tons of information sorted by disorder on my mental health links page.
